Tributes
  1. Deepest condolences to the family and the close colleagues of Tom at Welch Allyn Baxter who are all feeling this loss.

The tributes above show the depth of respect love and affection that dear Tom was regarded with.
He had an enormous capacity to have empathy for everyone and went out of his way to always be kind and true.
His love for his family was a great joy in his life and so was his love for his work team.

He rang me every year on my birthday and tell me I was so old as I was 7 weeks older than he lol.
His time in New York and Dubai with his work colleagues was often memorable conversations.
His work with Jane and Trent was something he told me in September was a blessing in his last stage of his illness as they shared the load.

    Supported and respected and appreciated
A giant among men, with the core values in a human being that have been lost to the world but will always be remembered.
Proud to have known you and I’m sad to miss the 10/12 call for your birthday.

    Fly high my friend.

  9. To the Mitchell family,

I am lost for words as I write this to you. Despite my age gap with Tom, i considered him a close friend. Tom would call just for a chat & obviously we shared a love for football.

The last conversation I had with Tom we were celebrating his recovery & sitting here now, i am heartbroken as i never got to say goodbye.

Tom was the most beautiful human, he was kind, caring & a loving man. A hard worker & a man always up for a challenge.

I looked up to Tom like a father figure, as my father & I struggle to see eye to eye, Tom made me feel so comfortable, I always felt at home when we spoke.

I remember the first time I properly met Tom as an adult & employee of Hillrom, i went to shake his hand & i spilt my beer down his shirt & starting rubbing his belly as I was so upset I soaked his shirt. Tom just laughed & said its good to see you young Cooper. Finally made the team.

Its people like Tom who make this world go round & I can’t believe he is gone. I give my love to your family, as Tom may be gone, but he is certainly never forgotten.

I will always think of you mate, you were so young & worked way to hard. you deserved that beautiful retirement & a world cup game.

I love you mate & I will see you again one day. may you rest in piece & know your beautiful family think of you everyday. You were an amazing father, husband & friend. I will miss you.

Goodbye Tom, love your friend Cooper.

  17. The Mitchell van was a red house brick on wheels. Hard to miss, it was so bright, everyone knew who it was when they saw it coming. With two adults and four kids, it carried them through life, from their younger days in Whyalla, to the far north of Queensland, finally to settle in Ballarat. I think of that van as a metaphor for Tom. Strong, reliable, humble, he carried his family through life, making sure they arrived safely at wherever it was they wanted to go.
For one so gifted with intelligence, Tom could easily have excelled in most academic pursuits. But true to his nature, he chose to care for others, firstly in his nursing career, then as an outstanding husband and father.
We spent many of those early years together, photographing everything we could, printing for hours on end, listening to great music and Monty Python. Then when family came along, sharing so many good times playing and joking with the children and watching them grow, seeing in them hints of the adults they would become.
Tom, I have missed you these past years, as time and great distance came between us. Always an optimist, I had imagined we would meet again somewhere for another cup of tea, a Tim Tam for Tom’s Tum, and a game of chess. Now not to be.
You were a truly great man, having in abundance the qualities we all should wish to have; kindness, humility, love, decency. RIP

  18. Dear Sharon and Family,
Firstly, I would like to express my condolences to you all on Toms passing.
I first met Tom 15 years ago when he joined Welch Allyn working with Jane.
When at WelchAllyn social functions I always seemed to spend the most time chatting to Tom as we had a lot in common, family and a passion for football.
I always found Tom to be a caring, generous and supportive gentleman, who always made time for the people close to him. He will be sorely missed.

  19. To Sharon and Family
I have worked with Tom since he started at Welch Allyn and he was always the kindest man both as work colleague and friend. Sharon I will always remember at a Sales meeting when he was asked if he wanted to dance on dance floor. He said “There is only one lady in my life I would dance with and that is my beautiful Wife” You are all so blessed to of had him in your life as he was an angel without wings on earth and now he is an angel with wings.
I have so many beautiful memories I will hold in my heart and mind of Tom forever. Please also remember that you are his Heaven. So he will always be around you all so just look for the signs.
My Sincere Condolences to you all and not only were you all blessed to have him in your life but he was blessed to have you all as well as I know how much he loved you Sharon and how proud he was of all his children.

  23. To the Mitchell Family,

Please accept my personal heartfelt condolences for your recent loss of Tom.
It is hard to describe in words at times like this how much the passing of a person that you have known for so many years can affect and move us.
For the family it will be very hard to grapple with the emotions of losing such a loving devoted partner, parent, and family member. In my case it will be a much respected and admired friend and work colleague.

Tom and I go back 25 years plus and our collaboration began due us both having a passion for a professional association and involvement with the Welch Allyn brand of medical products. Tom and I both moved from a clinical nursing background to the commercial world and shared similar values and views on life. Culturally we both have a British background, and we are only a few months apart in age. During all this time we always maintained regular contact and enjoyed each other’s company.

Tom was the ultimate professional and had a heart of gold, we both worked in an industry of competition, and this can place demands on people and test their characters enormously. Never once did Tom compromise his personal integrity or professionalism to gain advantage, his humble and genuine approach to his work and personality developed an industry respect that very few can attest to.

The strength of a person’s character is measured on how they deal with the great challenges of life and none more so than those presented to us individually. The grace and manner of how Tom dealt with his own, particularly in recent years was an inspiration to us all.

Will not be able to be at the service next Monday unfortunately but will be there in spirit and thinking of Tom and remembering what a giant of a man he was in character and stature.

Vale Tom Mitchell, Rest in Peace
With love from your colleague and friend
